Why Starfish?
The fund gets its name from the parable about a child who sees countless starfish washed up on a beach and begins tossing them back into the ocean one by one. With so many starfish stranded along such a large beach, the effort won't make a bit of difference, a passerby tells her.
The child picks up another starfish and tosses it into the water. "It sure made a difference to that one," she replies.
